We are excited to announce our Patron Paul Griffiths, Emeritus Professor of Virology at University College London, has been awarded an MBE on King Charles III’s Birthday Honours List, for his contribution to virology.
Professor Griffiths has dedicated his professional life to the field of medical virology. He has an international reputation and an unrivalled expertise in the effects of viruses on patients and their families.
This award recognises his research on cytomegalovirus (CMV), prevention of CMV disease in transplant patients, the development of a new diagnostic test for congenital CMV and raising awareness of CMV infection through CMV Action.
Speaking with CMV Action, Professor Griffiths said: “I was surprised and delighted to be notified of the award which showcases the work of the whole research team over many years. I hope it will bring some attention to the problems CMV causes and stimulate interest in developing further the candidate vaccines we have at present”
CMV Action are proud and privileged to work alongside Professor Griffiths. In his role as Patron, he is always on hand to provide advice and guidance to our Support Team, regularly offers his expertise and supports us financially through regular donations. Chair of CMV Action, Sarah Dewar says “The trustees of CMV Action are delighted to hear that Professor Paul Griffiths has been awarded an MBE for services to virology. Paul has always worked closely with CMV Action for many years and we are proud to have him as our patron. On behalf of all the families we support we wanted to congratulate him on this recognition of his hard work and thank him for his support to our charity.”
