Stress Awareness Month

Supporting Families Living with Congenital CMV

April marks Stress Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the impact that stress can have on our wellbeing and to explore ways to manage it. At CMV Action, we recognise that receiving a CMV diagnosis, and living with congenital CMV (cCMV), can bring additional challenges and emotional pressures on top of everyday life.

Families often navigate uncertainty, medical appointments, and the ongoing needs of their child, which can feel overwhelming at times. It’s important to acknowledge these feelings and remember that support is available.

Through our CMV Connect project, we are continuing to look at ways we can best support families, both now and in the future, so that no one feels they have to face this journey alone

While every family’s experience is different, there are small, practical steps that can help manage stress:

  • Taking time for a short walk or getting outside in nature
  • Connecting with friends, family, or others who understand your journey
  • Setting aside moments for rest, even in busy routines
  • Practising simple breathing or mindfulness techniques
  • Being kind to yourself and recognising that it’s okay to have difficult days

Most importantly, please remember: You are not alone

CMV Action is here to listen, to support, and to help guide you. If you need additional support, we can also signpost you to other services that may be helpful for your situation.

We also encourage families to connect with others through our peer-to-peer WhatsApp support groups. Speaking with people who truly understand can make a real difference.

If you need us, we are here.
