CMV Connect January Round-Up

Exciting things to come in 2026…

A message from Debbie,

CMV Connect Project Coordinator

Happy New Year to everyone, although it seems a bit of a distant memory now!

Our fifth update shares the work that has been ongoing, building on what families have been telling us. We’ve had our third meeting of the Family Advisory Panel, which I tell you more about below and we’ve had some really positive volunteer information sessions.

As ever, I really appreciate your continued involvement and support.  Thank you!

What’s been happening

Volunteer Information Sessions

We held two online sessions in the middle of January and were delighted to have people attend these sessions that have so many skills, knowledge and experience.

We discussed the volunteering roles available, shared information about CMV Action and listened to the experience of those who attended the session. We know for volunteers who may have caring responsibilities, time is often very split, so we are always happy to discuss how volunteering can fit around other responsibilities.

If you couldn’t manage along to the sessions, but are interested in volunteering, but don’t hesitate to get in touch. Volunteer your time or skills. Every minute of volunteer time helps us grow our reach and impact.

Online training package for volunteers

I’ve been working on setting up an online training platform for CMV Action to ensure we can train our volunteers in the essential skills they need when volunteering with us. This supports volunteers to develop and enhance their skills and gives back to our volunteers by offering discounts, health and wellbeing support, and additional resources to support them in their volunteering and beyond.

Family Advisory Panel

We held our third meeting in January. During the meeting, families spoke about the benefit of relaxed face to face meetups that focus on connection rather than formal structure. There was a strong preference for informal, nurturing gatherings where parents can talk freely while children and siblings play safely. Families shared that these kinds of meetups help reduce isolation, create meaningful connections, and feel far more supportive than conference style events. Importantly, they emphasised the need for a no pressure approach where attendance is flexible and families can join in ways that feel right for them.

Upcoming Plans

We also updated the Panel on how their voices are shaping our work, and that we are currently working on:

  • Plans for an online CMV education session led by clinical experts
  • Upcoming conversations with psychologists focused on whole-family wellbeing
  • Early exploration of small-group wellbeing and coping-strategy sessions
  • Future development of SEND advocacy, EHCP guidance, and professional drop-ins

Share your feedback. Let us know your thoughts – we want to hear what kind of support or events would mean the most to you – drop me an email at debbierennie@cmvaction.org.uk

Thank You

As we step into the New Year, we want to thank you for being part of the CMV Action community. Your support, whether sharing experiences, taking part in events, or connecting with others online, helps families feel understood and less alone. We are excited to continue working with you in 2026 and look forward to sharing news, updates, and opportunities to get involved in the months ahead.
