Rates of CMV in the UK

So far there have not been any large scale studies in the UK looking at proportions of children born with CMV and the overall burden of the disease (a lot of the research evidence comes from other developed countries).

In order to improve the UK evidence base, the 2012 Life Study will look at CMV infection.  In this new cohort study, 90,000 pregnant women will be tracked through pregnancy, birth and beyond.  It is the largest ever UK-wide study of babies and young children. The study will look at the burden of disease of congenital CMV and assess which women get infected or re-infected.
