We're excited to announce that a study into treating older children with CMV has now reached the 25% mark in recruiting patients. The hearing loss treatment study is exploring whether treatment can be effective for children up to 4 years old. It is being carried out jointly with researchers in the US. Patient no.14 has now been recruited, meaning that the study is a quarter of the way towards the total of 54 cases needed.
Hearing loss in early childhood may be related to a virus infection (cytomegalovirus or CMV). Hearing loss with CMV infection may be progressive with worsening over months to years. No standard treatment is available for children with hearing loss due to CMV infection.
Your child may qualify for this study if they:
- Are age 1 month up to their 4th birthday)
- Have a recent diagnosis of hearing loss of the sensorineural hearing loss type
