CMV Action is looking for a new Treasurer

The CMV Action Board of Trustees is looking for a new Treasurer, to help us make a difference to children whose lives have been devastated by the CMV 'stealth virus'.  We would like to ask all our supporters to help us find the right person to join the team. THE ROLE The role of the Treasurer is to ensure CMV Action uses its resources appropriately and efficiently to deliver maximum impact against its objectives.  The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of CMV Action in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity. CMV Action is a small and dynamic charity run by a group of Trustees who are firmly committed to limiting the devastating impact of this virus for those currently effected and for future generations.  There is a lot of exciting research underway that could completely change the picture on prevention, treatment and management of CMV over the next decade.  Working with CMV Action is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the organisation and deliver real change and impact for children and families. Principal responsibilities:
  • Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Trustees.
  • Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charities objects
  • Contributing to the overall strategy and the effective management of the organisation
  • Challenging whether planned activities and spend will offer best value for money in delivering the objectives
Main duties:
  • Advising on the financial implications of the organisation's strategic plans
  • Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
  • Liaising with the charity’s auditors where appropriate
  • Ensuring that the charities annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP
  • Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
  • Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way
  • Contributing to strategic and operational discussions and decisions at Board meetings
  • Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment and reserves policy
Person Specification
  • Financial qualifications or experience.
  • A creative and strategic thinker who can ‘think big’ and stay focussed on the key issues
  • A history of impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
  • Commitment to the organisation and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  • You do not need to be an expert although effective decision-making, common sense, the ability to be objective and willingness to speak your mind is vital.
Commitment and Location
  • Remuneration: The role of Treasurer is a voluntary position and not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses may be claimed.
  •  Location: UK – Home Based
  •  Time commitment:
    • Monthly conference calls
    • Quarterly meetings (usually in London at weekends)
    • Annual General Meeting
    • Trustees are elected for a 12 month term at each AGM.
