We were delighted to be given a free ticket for the Baby Show at Excel today. It's the place that many pregnant women come to stock up on essentials for their new arrival and try out new products.
There were plenty of products on offer to help mums & dads-to-be to reduce risks of CMV infection in pregnancy. The main reason pregnant women catch CMV is from the bodily fluids that small children are so good at spreading around. So women who work with children, or who have a family already, need to be especially careful during pregnancy. Properly cleaning any items that have come into contact with kid's dribble (such as dummies and toys) is one thing that can make a difference. Encouraging little ones to have their own cups and utensils can make it easier to avoid sharing food and drink with kids when you are pregnant.
We really enjoyed seeing the Giggle Doctors from Theodora Children's Charity. They visit children in hospitals and hospices across England to bring magical moments to children in challenging times - something that many of our brave CMV children and parents would appreciate I'm sure. Keep up the good work Giggle Doctors!
It was great to see the Baby Show supporting UK parents to keep their babies safe by promoting the work of the Red Cross. We've got lots of ideas for CMV awareness at baby shows after today. We hope we can work together in future to support UK parents to keep their babies safe from CMV
